Saturation Problem with Corel PhotoPaint
by: David Melky
This is a temporary page it's staying here until Corel fixes the problem

I love Corel Products, I've been using Corel since v1 (year 1989) & being updating it since, I love the way it's customizable, & has so many features that aren't in any other product, I've tried Photoshop & hated it.

But recently I've been thinking of switching to another product for an important feature that is useless in photopaint that can't be missed, the Saturation,

Saturation with Photopaint distorts the color very badly,

Corel has fixed this problem in PaintShop Pro, but still Corel Photopaint's saturation is useless (I've stoped using it after v12)

Here are some samples. don't look at the right color just concentrate at the saturation effect.

download full size image   Now you see PhotoShop's

Saturation +20 with PhotoPaint (Full_Size_Image)

Place Mouse Over the image to see saturation +30 with PhotoShop (brighter & no color distortion) (Full_Size_Image)

Crop at the right side of sholder
Now you see PhotoShop's (crop)
  Original   PhotoPaint's   PhotoPaint's (Crop)

Saturation +20 with PhotoPaint (B/G becomes blue, eyes red etc...) (Full_Size_Image)

Place Mouse Over the image to see saturation +30 with PhotoShop (brighter & no color distortion) you just cant get this bright red with PhotoPaint. (Full_Size_Image)

Saturation +20 with PhotoPaint (white becomes red, shirt not as bright as photoshop's etc...) (Full_Size_Image)

Place Mouse Over the image to see saturation +30 with PhotoShop (brighter & no color distortion) can't get this vivid color with photopaint. (Full_Size_Image)

Note: Please don't say, that "Photopaint" is over saturating
because if you look at other colors (Reds p/exp) , you'll see it's not,
it's not anywhere near.

Here is the same job made with a freeware "PhotoControl"

Saturation is way better than PhotoPaint's, I think it's even better than Photoshop's

Important: Author of PhotoControl please email me for serious feedback I can't find you anywhere.

I Believe that PhotoPaint has a problem with the saturation engine, it has been since early versions and not updated. Not only that, look at the Selective Color that PhotoShop does, here is an example of the red produced by photoshop 6 selective color where it's impossible to be produced with photopaint

Selective color >> Red: Cyan = -100
Original (move the mouse out to see the difference)
